Whether you're in college, thinking about going to college soon, or just enjoying good college movies, feel free to watch some of the movies on this list. Below are some of the top ten college films from the past fifty years. Check out one tonight!
10. Drumline (2002)
Band children are most likely to enjoy this film. Drumline tells the story of a new college freshman who joins the college's brass band. He has to work throughout the film to earn respect from his bandmates.
9. Monsters University (2013)
If you're looking for something more relaxed and light-hearted, check out Monsters University. This film is a continuation of the Pixar film Monsters Inc. This film shows the origin of Mike and Sully, who get to know and improve their monster skills.
8. Wonder Boys (2000)
When Wonder Boys was released in 2000, the film received little praise. However, there is an all-star cast, including Michael Douglas, Tobey Maguire, Katie Holmes, and Robert Downey Jr. The film tells the story of a college professor trying to write a second novel and the help and inspiration of students and others Professors receives.
7. The social network (2010)
The social network is a documentary drama that tells the story of Mark Zuckerburg who created Facebook. This film is largely a dramatization of the events that led to it. This film is perfect for anyone who likes to create apps or is generally interested in Facebook.
6.Pitch perfect (2012)
Pitch Perfect is a carefree college musical. This film more or less ignores everything that has to do with teaching and instead focuses on several students in a singing group. This film is completely unrealistic, but it is good for laughing and ideal for anyone who loves films with a female lead.
5.22 Jump Street (2014)
22 Jump Street is the continuation of 21 Jump Street. Both films follow two undercover detectives, played by Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, who are taking courses and trying to solve crimes related to an underground drug ring. This is another great comedy film that has very little to do with actual college classes.
4. The graduate (1967)
The Graduate is a classic college film. The story follows a college-age young man who falls in love with a middle-aged woman. Their hot love affair causes a variety of problems for both lovers and their family members. If you love love films and drama, you can love this film.
3.Legal blond (2001)
Unlike many college films on this list, Legally Blond shows some of the prerequisites for getting to a prestigious college. This film has a lighthearted plot and great characters that drive the film. However, there are parts of the film that show the difficulties associated with learning for standardized tests. This is a great encouragement for students to take a SAT prep course.
2. Hunt for Goodwill (1997)
Good Will Hunting is possibly one of the most popular college drama films ever made. This film tells the story of an intelligent college caretaker, played by Matt Damon, who has to take the therapy of a college professor from Robin Williams. This emotional film touches the hearts of everyone who has seen it in the past 20 years. It is one of the many films that Harvey Weinstein put on the screen.
1. Accepted (2006)
Accepted may be the most entertaining college film ever made. This film tells the story of a group of students who are not admitted to a real college. They pretend their parents that they went to college by literally starting their own college. Students buy a building with tuition fees collected and run their own classes. It's one of the best films for any new or upcoming college student to watch a laugh at, and maybe a motivation to apply for college.
Many years ago I attended a small university in Utah. I remember seeing The Graduate at a party with friends and loving the realism of the whole thing. Then, not long after Good Will Hunting came out, I was reminded of the care some of my professors had. All of these films are great to watch both during and outside of college!
The next time you need a good movie to watch, check out one of the movies on this list. Depending on which you choose, you can laugh, cry, sing or all three!
If you prefer nothing more than music, you can listen to the Raindance Sonic playlist. Each of these punk tracks has a specific raindance link.
