48th Annie Awards Going Virtual

BURBANK, CA – ASIFA-Hollywood announced today that the 48th Annie Awards ceremony will be a virtual event on Friday, April 16, 2021. Details are currently being planned. The Annie Awards official website will be updated as information about the ceremony becomes available. "A particular benefit of this year's virtual event is the participation of our international members – artists, animators and filmmakers – who will be there for the first time to celebrate this year's award winners, nominees and winners," said Jerry Beck, President of ASIFA – Hollywood.

"The decision to go virtual was a difficult one, but we think this is the best way to share this year's animation talent in broadcast and feature film productions without the fear of endangering the hundreds of guests who are gather every spring to celebrate the best of animation, "said Sue Shakespeare, Vice President, ASIFA-Hollywood.

Important dates for the 48th Annie Awards are:

  • Call for Entries – Monday, January 4, 2021
  • Annie's closing date is 5:00 p.m. (PST) on Monday, February 1, 2021
  • Nominations Announced – 8 a.m. PST on Wednesday, March 3, 2021
  • Closing date for Annie's Sponsor & Advertiser is Monday, March 22, 2021
  • The online voting starts on Monday, March 29, 2021 and ends on Friday, April 9, 2021

Submissions for review are from animated productions released in the United States between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020. Exceptions are commercials, short topics, special projects, and student films that can qualify with or without US releases. The deadline for entries is Monday, February 1, 2021, 5 p.m. (PST).

The Annie Awards were founded in 1972 by the experienced language talent June Foray and in whose name the philanthropic June Foray Award was brought to life. They have increased in size and stature over the past four decades.
