Blackmagic Camera 7.2 Update for URSA Mini Pro 12K Released

The new Blackmagic Camera 7.2 update introduces new features and fixes for the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K, such as: B. URSA Mini Recorder support, better highlight roll-off in Gen 5 color science, better anamorphic support, and much more.

Back in July 2020, Blackmagic Design released the new URSA Mini Pro 12K camera together with the Blackmagic URSA Mini Recorder. While the camera has been selling for some time (and has already received a 7.0 update for higher frame rates), the recorder wasn't available yet – it's coming soon. Blackmagic Design recently released the new firmware update for Blackmagic Camera 7.2, which includes support for the URSA mini recorder on the URSA Mini Pro 12K, as well as other improvements for the camera. Let's take a look.

Blackmagic Camera 7.2 update

Perhaps the biggest change in the 7.2 update is the support for the Blackmagic URSA Mini Recorder on the URSA Mini Pro 12K. With this recorder, which was specially developed for the URSA Mini Pro 12K, users can record to fast 2.5-inch SATA or U.2 NVMe SSDs. The recorder is controlled directly from the camera via the USB-C connection and is seamlessly integrated by attaching it between the back of the camera and the battery. Users can also connect the URSA Mini Recorder directly to the computer to transfer footage from the U.2 or SATA drives. The 7.2 update also provides support for U.2 NVMe 7mm and 9.5mm SSDs for the recorder.

The update improves the 5th generation color science for the URSA 12K, so that the setting of the video dynamic range drops off better for highlights. In addition, the Blackmagic Camera 7.2 update offers improved recording of constant quality in all resolutions and constant bit rate in 4K formats as well as an improved demosaic for improved reproduction of fine details.

It also improves anamorphic support by applying Desqueeze in camera and DaVinci Resolve by default, provides better support for CN-E and convertible lenses and lens data, and improves battery percentage reading, as well as general improvements in camera performance and stability.   • General performance improvements.

Finally, this 7.2 update also installs Blackmagic RAW 2.0 Beta 4, as well as Blackmagic RAW Speed ​​Test and third-party Blackmagic RAW plugins. BRAW Beta 4 improves the gamma and stability of Gen 5 video and extended video.

Price and availability

The Blackmagic Camera 7.2 update is available free of charge from the Blackmagic Design Support website. When updating the URSA Mini Pro 12K, make sure it is plugged in and use only the USB port on the left side of the camera near the media card slots.

Please note that the software installer no longer installs the Desktop Video or UltraScope applications and must be downloaded separately from the Blackmagic Design Support website.
