This one is for all of the pro VFX fans out there. With Mocha Pro 2021, the Planar Tracking Suite adds PowerMesh. Basically, it just learned to trace not only planar but warped and uneven surfaces as well!
I think Boris FX Mocha Pro can safely be considered the planar tracker of choice when it comes to replacing a flat surface with something else in post production. However, Mocha Pro 2021 has taken a big step forward in this regard: the range of applications has just expanded from planar to subplanar tracking, making Mocha Pro 2021 even more versatile and useful for a whole range of post-production workflows.

Since Mocha is almost an industry standard for all types of planar tracking applications, this new update is of great importance. It opens up a whole host of new workflows within Mocha. Applying compelling VFX elements like wounds or digital makeup to a moving face is not possible with the previous version of Mocha Pro. Watch the video below for an overview of the new features:
Along with the new PowerMesh functions, Mocha adds advanced Python scripting functions to the plug-in version. In previous versions this was a stand-alone exclusive feature. Phython Scripting allows you to add your own custom tools and automations to further customize your specific workflow.

More Alembic workflows
Mocha Pro 2021 also adds support for outputting Alembic exports to more hosts to keep working on VFX recordings in various applications. It offers support for Foundry Nuke, Blackmagic Design Fusion, Autodesk Flame, Maxon Cinema4D or Assimiliate Scratch. Tracking data from the new PowerMesh engine can also be exported to Adobe After Effects.
Another function is called AdjustTrack, with which the VFX artist can manually adjust tricky effect recordings in terms of tracking. This can be useful when the area to be tracked is obscured by, for example, a foreground element.
Prices and availability
Mocha Pro 2021 is available as a stand-alone version and as a plug-in version for various host applications such as Adobe After Effects, Avid Media Composer or OFX-controlled apps such as Foundry NUKE, Blackmagic Design Fusion, VEGAS Pro or HitFilm Pro.

While Mocha is pretty advanced software for the professional market, it could also be of interest to indie filmmakers. The capabilities of such software are nothing short of amazing and it is really tempting to replace something in your shot with something else while the software does the heavy lifting for you automatically. If you like what you see, give Mocha Pro 2021 a whirl, there is also a free trial as well as lots of tutorial videos on the site.
