"Industry" offers an inside look at the black box of high finance through the eyes of an outsider, Harper Stern (Herrold), a talented young woman from New York State. The show will explore topics such as gender, race, and class in the workplace from the perspective of young graduates fueled by ambition, romance, and drugs as they try to develop their own identity in the pressure cooker setting of Pierpoint & Co's retail space. Harper's drive intensifies when she is surrounded by people born in privilege, like Yasmin (Abela), who, despite her background, faces her own challenges. Yasmin has had different expectations of her since childhood and is tired of being underestimated professionally. At Pierpoint, Harper and Yasmin have to prove their worth as professionals among their colleagues. One of her colleagues is Robert (Lawtey), who joins the bank from the working class believing there is a real meritocracy where putting on a suit helps to distance oneself from one's past. In contrast, Robert's roommate Gus (Jonsson) was built for institutions like Pierpoint, which hail from Eton and Oxford, and sees this as just another tick on a checklist that leads him straight to Downing Street. Doe-eyed Hari (Rizwan) has dreamed of working in banking all his life, dresses like a modern “master of the universe” and is determined to be successful regardless of the cost.

Industry is created and executive produced by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, while Jane Tranter, Lachlan MacKinnon, Ryan Rasmussen, David P. Davis and Ben Irving are also executive producers. The series is being produced by Ed Lilly and Lee Thomas as co-executive. The authors include Konrad Kay, Mickey Down, Sam H. Freeman, and Kate Verghese. Industry directors include Lena Dunham, Ed Lilly, Tinge Krishnan, and Mary Nighy.
