Along with the introduction of the Canon EOS C70 cinema camera, Canon also introduced a new broadcast zoom lens: the Canon CJ20ex5B. This 5.0 to 100mm f / 1.8 to 2.95 glass has a B4 lens mount, an integrated 2x extender and supports 4K resolution. Let's take a closer look!

The Canon CJ20ex5B is the brand's latest addition to their remote control lenses called BCTV lenses. These high quality 4K zoom lenses are designed for broadcast cameras with B4 lens mounts and normally "small" 2/3 inch sensors.

The Canon BCTV range consists of twelve portable lens options and six box lenses. All of these zoom lenses have a built-in 2.0x extender that doubles their focal length.

In addition, all Canon BCTV lenses have a zoom rocker, which is ideal for operating your camera on the shoulder.

CJ20ex5B functions

The new Canon CJ20ex5B is a 20x telephoto zoom lens with a fairly generous range of 5.0 to 100 mm. When you activate the 2.0x extender it becomes a 10-200mm glass.
At the wide end, the Canon CJ20ex5B has a maximum aperture of 1: 1.8, which at 100 mm is 1: 2.95.

As mentioned earlier, the CJ20ex5B supports 4K resolution and is compatible with cameras that support chromatic aberration correction for the BT.2020 color gamut.

The CJ20ex5B is equipped with a 16-bit absolute value encoder that can read out highly precise position information on the individual lens settings – zoom focus and iris, without initializing the lens. There are three 20-pin connections on the zoom rocker, via which the lens can read out such information even when the zoom and focus controls are used at the same time. This makes the Canon CJ20ex5B compatible with virtual systems and remote controls.
