Canon has just released a firmware update version 1.1.0 for its flagship camera EOS-1D X Mark III, which fixes an issue that would cause the camera to freeze. For filmmakers, this firmware update offers a frame rate of 23.98 P in the 4K UHD and FullHD recording modes. Let’s take a closer look.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark III firmware update version 1.1.0
Canon has just released a firmware update version 1.1.0 for its Canon EOS-1D X Mark III that fixes an issue that users reported in March 2020. In fact, if the electronic level in the viewfinder was set to “display”, the camera could freeze and you pressed the shutter button or the AF-ON button. The 1D X Mark III is a high-end camera (and an expensive camera), and the last thing you want to see is a bug that blocks it. Below is a video that explains the problem.
The firmware update version 1.1.0 also offers some functions, including:
- The option to record Full HD movies and 4K UHD movies with a frame rate of 23.98p has been added.
- Communication speed was improved when connecting via a wired LAN.
- Corrects the phenomenon that in rare cases the camera may freeze when the AF ON button or the shutter button is pressed when the electronic level in the viewfinder display is set to “Show”.
- Corrects the phenomenon in which the custom shooting mode settings may change when the shooting mode is switched.
- The "Browser Remote" function has been added.
- The function to only transfer protected images has been added.
Adding the 23.98 P frame rate in FullHD and 4K UHD shooting modes is a useful addition for filmmakers. Canon has also added this 23.98 P frame rate to most of its cameras.
Free update, now available
The firmware update version 1.1.0 for the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is now available. It is a free update that you can download directly from the Canon website.
