Depends on the application for which you are using the effect. A first person shooter may be better equipped with the line trace / hit scan setup for bullets. In this case it is better to use a beam with a fast swivel texture for the tracer. When using real projectiles, does the arc move or move, or do they only move in a straight line? For a straight line, just use a mesh like you already use. There is not much you can do to make it look better when it is moving really fast. If it bends, use a tape track and try to move the starting point in front of the projectile. If bands move too quickly in space, they lag somewhat behind their emitter
