DJI has released new firmware updates for its latest single-handed gimbals, the DJI RS 2 and RSC 2. The new update includes support for the DJI Ronin 3D focus system on the RS 2, support for remote control for various cameras (including the new Sony a7S III, a7C, Canon EOS C70 and more), optimized ActiveTrack and DJI RavenEye. The firmware updates can be downloaded for free from the DJI website.

The new generation of single-handed gimbals from DJI was announced last month. For more information, see our DJI RS 2 and RSC 2 announcement article. Both stabilizers are shipped and DJI has just released new firmware updates for them. Let's take a look at the new.

DJI RS 2 firmware update

The larger DJI RS 2, which can carry a tested dynamic payload of 4.5kg, has just received new firmware v01.02.00.30. According to DJI, the following features will be added:

  • Added Support for DJI Ronin 3D Focus System When the DJI RS 2 is used with the DJI Ronin Focus Motor, which enables auto focus for manual lenses. However, the Ronin 3D Focus System must be purchased separately.
  • Added Dolly zoom. To use this feature, the DJI RS 2 must be used with the DJI Ronin Focus Motor. The distance and the duration from point A to B can be set on the focus motor.

  • Features like video recording, photo capture, camera settings, auto focus and focus pull support for different cameras like added Sony A7S III, A7C, PXW-Z90V and FDR-AX100E, Nikon Z6 II and Z7 II, Nikon D500, Canon EOS-1D X, EOS C70, Panasonic LUMIX S5 and BGH1. (with supported lenses) with one control cable for multiple cameras (USB-C or Micro-USB). To use autofocus, press the gimbal camera control button halfway down.
  • Added aperture settings for Olympus E-M1II cameras.
  • Added ability to rotate the screen.
  • The ability to trigger ActiveTrack by dragging a field around the subject on the touchscreen has been added.
  • Optimized touchscreen response and additional option to deactivate the tilt axis follow in ActiveTrack. After deactivating the tilt axis, the tilt axis remains at the current angle and does not follow the subject.
  • The ability to automatically calibrate and clear endpoints for the focus motor has been added. Swipe left and up on the touchscreen to enter the endpoint settings for the focus motor.
  • Gimbal control, photo recording, video recording, parameter settings, recenter and a selfie mode switch for the Futaba S.BUS remote control (tested with a Futaba T14SG and R7008SB receiver) added.
  • The ability to access the camera settings for the DJI RavenEye image transmission system has been added by connecting the camera via a camera control cable.
  • Optimized power management for the DJI RavenEye image transmission system, which increases the running time of both the transmission system and the gimbal.
  • Optimized touchscreen user interface.
  • The connection experience for the DJI RavenEye Image Transmission System has been optimized by removing the default password 12345678. After linking via the system's WiFi, a password must be set in the DJI Ronin app. The password must be 8 characters long and consist of letters and numbers.
  • Fixed occasional issue: when used with the BMPCC 4K camera, the gimbal axes could not stabilize when changing the frame rate while recording.
  • Fixed Issues: Nikon Z5, D780, and D5 cameras were unable to display LiveView on a camera, mobile device, or gimbal after connecting to RavenEye.
  • Occasional problem resolved: When using the Panasonic GH5, GH5S, S1, S1H and G9, the gimbal could not control the camera after hot plugging the camera control cable.
  • Resolved Issue: When using the Olympus E-M1II camera, the camera would restart repeatedly and not be able to take photos in AF mode after hot-plugging the camera control cable.
  • Resolved Issue: In AF mode, photos cannot be taken by holding down the camera control button when using the SIGMA fp camera.

  • Added aperture settings for Olympus E-M1 II cameras.
  • The ability to check the battery level when turning off the gimbal by pressing the power button once has been added.
  • The ability to automatically calibrate and clear endpoints for the focus motor has been added. Enter advanced settings and scroll through to select the endpoint settings for the focus motor.
  • The ability to access the camera settings for the DJI RavenEye image transmission system has been added by connecting the camera via a camera control cable.
  • Optimized power management for the DJI RavenEye image transmission system, which increases the running time of both the transmission system and the gimbal.
  • The connection experience for the DJI RavenEye Image Transmission System has been optimized by removing the default password 12345678. After linking via the system's WiFi, a password must be set in the DJI Ronin app. The password must be 8 characters long and consist of letters and numbers.
  • The gimbal transition when switching to briefcase mode has been optimized.
  • Fixed occasional issue: when used with the BMPCC 4K camera, the gimbal axes could not stabilize when changing the frame rate while recording.
  • Fixed Issues: Nikon Z5, D780, and D5 cameras were unable to display LiveView on a camera, mobile device, or gimbal after connecting to the DJI RavenEye imaging system.
