Canadian video hardware and software maker Grass Valley has released the latest version of its non-linear Windows editing software EDIUS, now called EDIUS X.

EDIUS has been around for nearly twenty years, and it's primarily used in the broadcast industry, but it has made advances in film production by businesses, government agencies, and enthusiasts. While some companies are eager to remove the capital "X" (macOS, anyone?), Grass Valley has adopted it to mark the latest version 10.0 of EDIUS X software.

New features

EDIUS is known for being able to handle almost any codec under the sun without transcoding, making it a fast and fast NLE. This is also why it is popular in the broadcasting industry. It appears that Grass Valley has built on this proven concept and added much-needed features that are common in many other NLEs. Note that the following is taken from their PR:

Background rendering: EDIUS X never asks you to interrupt processing in order to complete a process. This makes your workflow smooth, creative and practically unstoppable.

Background export: The new background render engine is also great for exporting files. You never have to stop working while exporting.

GV Job Monitor: EDIUS X keeps you up to date on all background activities and enables you to prioritize orders as required.

VST plug-in support: EDIUS X extends support for VST plugins. This includes support for latency plug-ins as well as powerful WaveShell integration.

Motion tracker with chase mode: With EDIUS X, you can easily attach a label, animation or video clip to your tracked object.

Motion tracker with anchor mode: Automatically recreate your image with reference to the tracked object. This is ideal for aspect ratio conversions and virtual multi-camera recordings.

H.265 export: EDIUS X speeds up rendering time when exporting by using NVIDIA GPU support. This is also available with the new options for rendering the background.

GUI color: EDIUS X has a refined user interface in a slightly darker color. This makes editing even more convenient with a cool new look.

Optimized performance: EDIUS X requires Windows 10 and makes optimal use of the advanced technology. This includes hardware acceleration provided by Intel QuickSync as well as extensive GPU support. The new modular structure makes it possible to use the potential of multicore CPUs more efficiently than ever before.

Optimized audio sync performance: EDIUS X offers an even faster automatic audio sync function that allows you to align as many clips as your projects need for a smooth multicam experience.

Native support for the latest cameras and codecs: EDIUS X supports the latest codecs and camera releases like no other NLE. No transcoding required so you can just edit!

Continuous development: EDIUS X will continue to expand its toolset and add even more creative options. EDIUS X users benefit from all EDIUS 10.x updates, which can be downloaded free of charge during the entire life cycle of EDIUS X.

What's in the box?

EDIUS X comes with three modules for optimizing audio, title creation and video effects.
