VIEW CONFERENCE 2020 continues to prepare for the 21st edition, which will take place from October 18-23 both in person and online. The third free online session “PreVIEW” takes place. In PreVIEW III, Before and after Editor Ian Failes will speak to Pixar's RenderMan evangelist Dylan Sisson.
Sisson will speak about the latest technology in Pixar's RenderMan: the magic of the film in Pixar's latest feature animation Onward; take a look at the amazing NPR (non-photorealistic rendering) tools currently under development at Pixar and promise to turn RenderMan into a tool for any look; to photo-realistic images; and to practically every other style, including comics, anime, and quaint looks.
The meeting will take place on Friday 24 July at 2:30 p.m. PDT / 11:30 p.m. CET / 7:30 a.m. Sydney
Pixar is known for the studio's award-winning blockbuster animated films, but the studio also created and continuously improved its RenderMan software. Artists in visual effects and animation studios around the world, as well as at Pixar, use RenderMan to turn 3D models into believable, realistic objects and characters. The surfaces of all objects and characters in a Pixar film – from Woody's blue jeans to Coco's breathtaking marigold bridge to Onward's flying pink unicorn – were created by artists with RenderMan.
Sisson is a digital artist with over 25 years of experience in VFX and animation. He started his career by animating commercials and creating role-playing games for the Sony Playstation. After winning his award for best computer-animated short film at the AnimarFestival in 1999, Dylan moved to Pixar Animation Studios, where he helped evangelize Pixar's RenderMan. Dylan is also the creator and designer of the RenderMan Walking Teapot. In addition to his role at Pixar, Dylan is now an active artist dealing with emerging media in VR and 3D printing.
