George Miller Won’t Use De-Aged Charlize Theron in ‘Mad Max’ Prequel

Our Furiosa has been found! It seems almost impossible to fill Charlize Theron's considerably talented shoes, but Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split, The Queen's Gambit) is definitely up to the task. Taylor-Joy will serve as the younger iteration of Furiosa in the upcoming Fury Road prequel Mad Max: Furiosa (or Mad Max: The Wasteland, according to IMDb). Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, The Matrix 4) will join Taylor-Joy as newcomers to the franchise, with Tom Hardy re-playing his role as Max of the same name.

According to a New York Times article The Oscar-winning, director and producer of the Mad Max franchise, revealing Furiosa's early life, was written before Fury Road began filming. No wonder, considering the Fury Road was 15 years in development. "It was just a way to help Charlize and explain it to ourselves," Miller says of the script.

While some may be disappointed that Theron is not reproducing her iconic role, Miller cites his dissatisfaction with current aging technology as the reason for choosing a younger actress. "For the longest time I thought we could just use CG de-aging on Charlize, but I don't think we're nearly there. Despite the valiant attempts against The Irishman, I think there is still an eerie valley Everyone is on the verge of solving it, especially Japanese video game designers, but I think there is still quite a long valley out there. "

Miller returns as director, writer and producer, Nico Lathouris as co-writer. Doug Mitchell also returns as a co-producer under the Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner in partnership with Warner Brothers. A release date for the prequel has not yet been announced.
