Almost two years after its announcement, Venus Optics – the company behind Laowa – is now shipping its first cine zoom lens: the Laowa OOOM 25-100 mm T / 2.9 Cine. This lens covers Super35 sensors, but an extender for full frame sensors will also be available in October. Finally, a 1.33x anamorphic adapter will also be available in October. Let's take a closer look at this new cine zoom!

Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T / 2.9 Cine zoom capabilities
We first heard of the Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T / 2.9 Cine at Photokina 2018. This cine zoom is the company's first cine zoom and offers impressive features:
- The Laowa OOOM can go from 25mm to 100mm, which makes it a 4x zoom, and it's parfocal.
- It has a constant T / 2.9 aperture with nine aperture leaves.
- The focus cylinder has an angle of rotation of 270 degrees with focus breathing close to zero. The Laowa OOOM 25-100 mm T / 2.9 Cine has a minimum focus distance of 60 cm.
- This cine zoom covers Super35 sensors.
- The iris, zoom and focus ring have standard 0.8 Mod / 32 pitch gears for FIZ systems.
- The lens mount can be interchanged by the user between PL, Canon EF and Sony E mounts.
In September 2019, Laowa announced a 1.4x expander that makes the Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T / 2.9 Cine compatible with full-frame sensors. This expander converts the zoom range from 25-100 mm to 35-140 mm. However, you lose a light shield, making it a constant T / 4.0 aperture zoom lens.

In addition, a 1.33x anamorphic adapter for the rear was announced to further expand the functions of the cine zoom. With the rear anamorphic Laowa adapter, you get fewer "streak" lens effects and the bokeh is also less oval. In addition, there is half a brake light loss when used.

Prices and availability
After a lot of hard development work, Laowa finally delivers its Laowa OOOM 25-100 mm T / 2.9 Cine. The lens is now available in both Imperial and Metric versions at a price of $ 5,000.00. It comes in a beautiful Pelican-style case, Canon EF and Sony E-mount bayonets, a set of washers, some tools to swap out the lens mounts, and front / back caps.
A bundle is also available for $ 6,500.00 and includes the 1.33x anamorphic rear adapter and 1.4x FF expander. However, these lens adapters will be shipped from October.
For comparison, the DZOFILM Pictor 20-55mm and 50-125mm T / 2.8 zoom lenses, available in PL / EF mounts, are cheaper at $ 4,499.00. However, the DZOFILM Pictor lenses only cover Super35 / APS-C sensors, and there is no rear adapter available to make them compatible with full frame cameras. You will also need two glasses to cover the range of the Laowa OOOM.
