Marmoset unveils Toolbag 4.0
Tuesday, September 22, 2020 | Written by Jim Thacker
Marmoset announced Toolbag 4.0, the next major version of its real-time rendering toolkit, and the first full software update in almost four years.
The version, which is currently available in closed beta, offers support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing and texture baking on current Nvidia RTX GPUs as well as for custom workspaces.
A real-time toolkit for developing and rendering looks, especially for game assets and portfolio work
Toolbag is widely used by game artists, but increasingly also in other industries. It provides a real-time look development environment that allows artists to quickly set up materials and lighting for models.
Users can then either bake texture maps for export to other DCC software or game engines – Toolbag exports directly to Unity and UE4 – or render still images or animations directly.
The software is often used to render portfolio material and exported directly to ArtStation.
RTX accelerated ray tracing and texture baking support, updated user interface
The only information we currently have about the new features in Toolbag 4.0 is this brief overview, which was originally published on the software's official Facebook group:
- RTX-accelerated ray tracing – also optimized for non-RTX cards
- RTX accelerated baking tools
- Texture projects – 3D material creation in real time
- Workspaces with customizable user interfaces
- Asset Library – Free Materials, Skies, Brushes, and More …
We will add more details when we receive them.
Prices and availability
Toolbag 4.0 is currently in closed beta. You can apply for Facebook's beta test group here. Marmoset has not yet announced a commercial release date.
The current stable version Toolbag 3.08 is available for Windows 7+ and macOS 10.12+. New licenses cost $ 189 for individual artists and $ 399 for studios.
