Maxon is the latest CG software developer to receive an Epic MegaGrant. The $ 200,000 award will be used to strengthen the integration between Cinema 4D and Unreal Engine.
The company said it was "working towards a seamless workflow like the one we have with After Effects".
The biggest MegaGrant to date for a commercial tool developer?
Maxon is the latest developer to receive an award from Epic Games' $ 100 million MegaGrants fund.
The $ 200,000 grant is the largest for a commercial software developer that we know both Reallusion and Boris FX have received in undisclosed sizes.
According to Maxon's blog post, the money will fund research and development to “strengthen workflow integration” between Cinema 4D, its 3D design and motion graphics software, and Unreal Engine.
The work on a live connection between Cinema 4D and Unreal Engine will be financed with money
Unreal Engine users can already import Cinema 4D scenes: initially through Maxon's CV-C4D-to-UE4 plug-in, but more recently through the support of .c4d files in the Datasmith toolset, which is available for free in Unreal Engine 4.24 + is included.
According to Maxon, a workflow is now to be developed that is similar to that between Cinema 4D and After Effects.
The company's Cineware toolset creates a live link between the two applications so users can make changes to a scene in Cinema 4D and view the results in real time in After Effects.
An equivalent toolset would make Cinema 4D the newest DCC app to get a live link to Unreal Engine and speed up the workflow for motion designers and visualization artists using UE4 for real-time rendering.
Epic Games is developing its own free live link plug-in for Maya and MotionBuilder, while NewTek and Reallusion have corresponding plug-ins for LightWave and iClone.
