Reed Midem has just announced that MipTV 2020, one of the major entertainment content markets to be held from March 30th to April 2nd, has been canceled due to concerns about the international outbreak of the corona virus. MIPDoc and MIPFormats, originally scheduled for March 28-29, have also been canceled. Series 3 of CANNESERIES, the Cannes International Series Festival, which normally takes place alongside MipTV, was postponed for MIPCOM from October 9th to 14th. MipTV 2021 is scheduled for April 12-15, 2021; MIPDoc and MIPFormats will run from April 10th to 11th, while the fourth season of CANNESERIES will take place during MipTV in April 2021.
In an official statement, Paul Zilk, Chief Executive of Reed Midem said: “In the current context, many of our customers have expressed concerns about traveling at this time. It is not possible to reschedule MipTV in the coming months. Therefore, it is best to cancel MipTV for 2020. "
Zilk continued: “The wellbeing of our customers, partners and employees is our priority. We thank the customers for their support and their constructive contribution in this challenging time. We look forward to welcoming everyone to MIPCOM from October 12th to 15th and are pleased that CANNESERIES will be by our side again this year. "
Reed Midem was reportedly pending the final decision until the French government officially applied for the cancellation, which meant that they could then claim insurance. The news follows the French government's ban on indoor gatherings of more than 5,000 people. The number of MipTV visitors last year was almost 10,000. The first case of Covid-19 was reported in Cannes last Friday.
