Nerd Out with a Side-by-Side 'West Side Story' Comparison
Image 3.jpeg

I'm so ready for the new West Side Story. Are you?

Without seeing the new West Side Story, it's hard to compare it to the classic. But I can't help but be overwhelmed by the excitement for the new Steven Spielberg release. While it's probably unfair, I found this head-to-head comparison with the original online.

Try it out and let's talk afterwards.

I think you can immediately tell the difference in the way every director uses light. I would think that's mainly because the original version was shot mostly on set and with colorful, dramatic lighting.

Spielberg seems to have shot a lot on location in New York using natural light. We saw some color manipulation, although nothing is as pronounced as the original.

Both films contain extensive camera work and creative angles.

Again, we're just watching trailers so there's not much else to learn, but that's what caught my eye.

What did you notice? Let me know in the comments.
