Ryan Murphy targets the infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer for his next Netflix project.

Ryan Murphy gets ready to offer his take on the infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Netflix gave the go-ahead for Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a limited series produced by Murphy and Ian Brennan.

Deadline reported that Richard Jenkins will star as Dahmer's father, Carl Franklin will direct the pilot, and Janet Mock will write and direct other episodes as well. Production is scheduled to start in January. The role of Dahmer was not filled.

Deadline reported that Murphy and the other limited series producers are conducting a nationwide search for an actor to play the role. The casting for the female lead of Glenda Cleveland, a neighbor of Dahmer who has repeatedly and unsuccessfully warned law enforcement about the serial killer, is underway.

On Deadline, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story will capture the story of one of America's most notorious serial killers, largely told from the perspective of Dahmer's victims, and delve deep into the police incompetence and apathy that enabled the Wisconsin native to The show will dramatize at least 10 cases of Dahmer nearly arrested but released, and will also investigate white privilege. Dahmer, a "no-frills, handsome white man, has been repeatedly given free passes by police officers and judges who were lenient when charged with petty crimes."

Dahmer is one of the most notorious serial killers in United States history. Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys from 1978 to 1991 and committed necrophilia and cannibalism on several of his victims. All but one of his murders occurred in Wisconsin and the other in Ohio. Dahmer was murdered by a fellow inmate in prison in 1994.

Dahmer has been the subject of a variety of films and television series over the years, including recent titles such as "My Friend Dahmer" and "Jeffrey Dahmer: The Spirit of a Monster," which premiered in May 2020.

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is one of several projects Murphy is working on for Netflix. His limited series “Hollywood” and “Halston” as well as the film “The Boys in the Band” recently premiered on the platform. Murphy is also responsible for the Netflix series "Ratched" and "The Politician".
