What's new in version 2021?

ZBrush 2021 introduces a Dynamics system together with Controlled Cloth Sculpting and a revision of our Dynamic Subdivision function. We have also added new functions to ZModeler, introduced iMage 3D support for ZBrush and given the ability to open files created by ZBrushCoreMini in the native format.

The ZBrush engine itself has also been improved to improve performance across the board. You will find that ZBrush 2021 formulates more fluidly and takes less time to do other operations like DynaMesh.

Introduction to dynamics

Enhance your sculpting with a Dynamics system that allows any surface to be contracted, expanded, inflated, or draped with gravity. Use masking to freeze part of the mesh to create a point of interest, or use a mask to create a unique interaction that allows the surface to be rolled onto itself. Create realistic folds of fabric – even on a low-resolution layer. Place your mesh, turn on the collision volume and the controls you want, and watch ZBrush lay the fabric mesh over any other visible meshes.

Controlled fabric formation

Special brushes have been introduced that use the Dynamics engine to provide unique ways to interact with the fabric surface. As an example, you can choose where to put creases or just grab the geometry to move freely around the work area and create creases in real time. GIF The ClothTwister brush simulates a twisted cloth. ClothWind enables directional movements. ClothPinchTrails creates a pinched seam wherever your brushstroke occurs on the surface.

Dynamic Subdiv Revisited

The already powerful ZModeler brush system has been expanded to include new functions.

Extrude edge

It's never been easier to build a plane into what you envision or construct a whole new piece of geometry that will fit into an existing sculpture. With the new function "Edge extrusion" you can create with one edge, multiple edges, complete edge loops and / or polyloops – with interactive edge snap. In addition to extruding an edge to align it with the adjacent surface, you can also enable SnapToSurface to allow the new edges to snap to an underlying surface.

Equidistant use

Equidistant Inset allows you to insert a single polygon or a range of polygons and any newly created topologies will be equidistant from the existing topology. The result is a perfect new set of polygons.

NanoMesh changes

ZBrush 2021 further expands the already powerful instantiation system of NanoMesh and now offers you the possibility to edit the instance network while it is in the scene. By combining Split Screen with NanoMesh, you can easily create and customize without adding an awkward number of polygons.

iMage 3D GIF and PNG format

The iMage 3D format provides a unique way to share both an image of your work and the 3D model itself in a single GIF or PNG file. This file can be published on any website where it can be viewed as a normal 2D image. After opening in ZBrush, the entire model can be edited with all SubTools.
