The Blender version of Rocket Girl was created for a time-lapse video showing Muñoz Sessarego's workflow for Blender character animation.
The video is part of a series of Blender animation tutorials that Muñoz Sessarego, who currently works in DNEG's feature animation department, posted on his YouTube channel.
The rig itself was originally developed for Maya by Vladimir Mokhov – he himself currently works for the Blender-based feature animation studio Tangent Animation.
It features a full IK / FK mix on the arms and legs, as well as hybrid IK / FK systems for the torso and head, "snap-on" IK knees and elbows, and "pliable controls" for adding arches to the limbs.
The rig also includes facial controls for eyelids, lips, and teeth. Muñoz Sessarego notes that the blender modification of the face rig is "not very well weighted, but usable".
The rig also has resolution controls, including a simple, unskinned proxy rig for faster interactivity.
Both Blender and Maya versions of the Rocket Girl rig are free to download. The original Maya rig is compatible with Maya 2016.5+ and the Blender conversion is compatible with Blender 2.90+.
