VIEW Conference 2020Italy's first digital media conference for computer graphics, interactive and immersive storytelling, animation, visual effects, games as well as VR, AR and mixed reality has announced that Osnat Shurer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, the Oscar-nominated producer of Moana, will be attending the upcoming Presenting the 21st edition, which will take place online and in person from October 18-23 in Turin, Italy.
In a live virtual chat with Carolyn Giardina, Tech Editor at Hollywood Reporter, Shurer will share insights into her career as a filmmaker and documentary filmmaker and talk about her upcoming project Raya and the Last Dragon, due to hit theaters on March 12, 2021 . She will also answer questions from VIEW conference attendees during the session.
Shurer's talk will take place on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. PDT / 7:00 p.m. CET and will be broadcast live to a global audience.
After producing and directing various film and television projects as well as a number of interactive installations, Shurer moved to Pixar Animation Studios in 2002 as executive producer for the studio's Shorts Group, where she directed the production of animated projects on multiple platforms. Shurer has also consulted on a number of animated features, including Arthur Christmas from Aardman Animations.
Shurer joined Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2012 as Vice President of Development. In 2017, she and directors John Musker and Ron Clements received an Oscar nomination for the producer of Moana in the Best Animated Feature Film category.
In a special virtual presentation at VIEW 2020, Osnat Shurer will introduce a range of topics to a global audience, including the cultural counseling work she has done with the Oceanic Story Trust for Moana. She will also talk about her current work as producer on Disney's upcoming cartoon Raya and The Last Dragon, directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada.
“It is fascinating to hear Osnat talk about gender representation,” says conference leader Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez. “She and her team at Disney have made films with strong female characters in which women are portrayed as warriors. This goes for Moana, and I have a hunch that it will continue to do so for Raya and the last dragon. During the VIEW conference in October this year, we have the wonderful opportunity to discuss with Osnat about her creative vision and the unique stories she brings to the screen. "
"As the VIEW conference will be both online and on-site this year, we are taking this wonderful opportunity to involve notable professionals from around the world," added Gutierrez. "VIEW 2020 is going to be amazing."
The conference will take place online and in person in Turin from October 18-23. Additional information can be found at the event website.
