Pilgway ships 3DCoat 4.9.34
Wednesday, March 25, 2020 | Written by Jim Thacker
Pilgway has released 3DCoat 4.9.34, the latest version of its sculpting, retopology, and painting software that supports Megascans materials, updates to the fabric tool, and live link to Blender.
Although there has been a steady stream of beta updates to the software since 3DCoat 4.9 was released last year, 4.9.34 is the first to be officially marked as stable for production.
New features: support for Megascans materials and an interactive bend tool
New features in 4.9.34 include support for materials from the popular Quixel Megascans online library with 3D scan data. Downloaded Megascans materials can be imported as 3DCoat Smart Materials or as shaders.
There is also an intuitive looking new bending tool that users can work with interactively by dragging the bending point in the viewport as shown in this video.
A separate bending volume tool – currently still in beta – allows users to distribute and deform geometry along a guide curve with a number of control options.
Updates to the fabric tool and the Blender AppLink
Of the existing functions, the 3DCoat fabric tool, which automatically drapes fabric over models instead of shaping it by hand, is "now at a new level of quality and speed".
You can see the workflow in the video above. Users can interactively move a fabric object during a simulation and control how it settles under gravity.
In addition, the Blender AppLink has been updated to improve the workflow when using UV cards.
The AppLink, which has been integrated in Blender since Blender 2.80, creates a live connection between 3DCoat and Blender, so that users can make changes to an asset in one app and update it in the other.
In this video you can see the latest version in action. There are also new videos on installing and using AppLink on the 3DCoat YouTube channel, as well as more information and support in this forum thread.
There are also a number of smaller functions and bug fixes: A complete list can be found via the link below.
Pricing and availability
3DCoat 4.9.34 is only available for Windows 7+. At the time of release, the latest MacOS build is 4.9.02 and the latest Linux build is 4.8.20.
A commercial node-locked license has an MSRP of $ 379 and a floating license has an MSRP of $ 568 excluding taxes. The update is free for registered users of 3DCoat 4.x.
