Red Giant has released Universe 3.0, the latest update to its online library of effects and transitions for editing and compositing software, and has added five new effects for text creation.

The update also increases the price of Universe and more than doubles the cost of annual subscriptions.

New text effects for fantasy UI design and motion graphics
New features in Universe 3.0 include five new text effects shown in the video above, which are primarily aimed at restoring the look of computer terminals used for FUI and motion design work.

Each tool in the Universe Collection also gets new presets – the Red Giant blog post doesn't state how many – and the option for users to create and save their own custom presets.

After Effects and Premiere Pro users get a new dockable dashboard that allows them to access all of the Universe tools from a single location in the user interface.

Updated September 27, 2019: Red Giant has released Universe 3.1.

The update includes three new tools: Array Gun, a versatile looking system for "generating animated motion graphics based on grids, shapes and lines", as well as tools for creating animated numbers and progress bars.

In addition, the existing HUD component tool, which – not surprisingly – generates components for fantasy heads-up displays, receives 35 new presets.

Updated February 20, 2020: Red Giant has released Universe 3.2.

The update adds five new tools, including two for creating social media content: Typographically creates text animations, while Socialize previews footage in popular social media aspect ratios.

There are also new tools for creating picture-in-picture compositions, distorting footage with color aberration, and creating duotone or tritone separation effects.

Updated on August 19, 2020: Red Giant has released Universe 3.3.

New tools in the update include Quantum, which creates animated trails of light in front of or behind the selected layer and, when used with text, generates a range of retro-futuristic effects.

In addition, a new Modes tool allows layers to be combined without using the host software's native blend modes. This feature is particularly aimed at users of apps who lack them, such as: B. Media Composer.

The existing tools Glow, Glimmer, Hacker Text and Chromatic Aberration have also been updated: see the video above or the link at the bottom of the story for more details.

Prices and availability
Universe 3.3 is available now. A list of the versions of the host software supported here can be found here.

The price of subscriptions has increased significantly since the 2.x releases and is now $ 30 / month or $ 199 / year, down from $ 20 / month or $ 99 / year.
