Red Giant releases Trapcode Suite 16.0 for After Effects

Wednesday, November 18, 2020 | Written by Jim Thacker

Red Giant has released Trapcode Suite 16.0, the latest version of its motion graphics and VFX plug-ins for After Effects.

In particular, the Trapcode Suite plug-in for creating organic 3D particle effects has received an extensive update that adds a new wind effect, particle flocking behavior and the option to chain particle emitters.

Users can now also use Cinema 4D files as source objects in multiple trapcode plugins.

Special feature 5: New physical controls, flocking behavior and support for linked emitters
Most of the new features in Trapcode Suite 16.0 are included in Particular 5.0, the latest version of the plug-in for creating organic 3D particle effects.

The plugin's physics controls have been redesigned, introducing a new wind effect and making it possible to use air and jump physics in the same particle system.

There's also a new particle flocking system that offers pre-built behaviors to mimic effects like swarming birds or fish, or people snaking through public spaces.

Users can now also have up to 16 particle systems in the same scene – out of eight – and set up particle emitters that emit emitters themselves, which can create more complex effects.

The full changelog is much longer. For more information, see the video above or the link at the bottom of the story.

Native Cinema 4D file import in Particular 5.0, Form 4.5 and Mir 3.5
Following the merger of Red Giant with Maxon earlier this year, the integration with Cinema 4D has been strengthened in several Trapcode Suite plugins so that .c4d files can be used as source geometry.

In Particular 5.0, the geometry can be used as a particle emitter, with the plug-in maintaining the animation set up in Cinema 4D, including object rotation, translation and scaling.

In Form 4.5, the new version of Trapcode Suite's particle grid tool, the geometry can be converted into 3D particle objects. and in Mir 3.5, the new version of the Particle Terrain Generator, it can be used as Mir objects.

Prices and availability
Trapcode Suite 16.0 is available for After Effects CC 2017 and later on Windows 10 and Mac OS X 10.11+.

New licenses for the entire suite cost $ 999, but it doesn't seem possible to buy the plugins individually after sales have moved to the Maxon website. We contacted Maxon to check this out.

The software can also be borrowed through the Red Giant Complete and Maxon One subscriptions.
