Sony opens the door to AirPeak, the latest in drone technology.

A few months ago Sony teased Airpeak, a drone project that & # 39;it's supposed to combine Sony's "Imaging and sensor technology, technological know-how and AI robotics. "

Today, at CES 2021, the company pulled the curtain back and revealed some pretty cool details.

According to Sony, the Airpeak drone will come with a full-frame Sony Alpha mirrorless camera, reminiscent of Freefly's recent release of its Astro drone that combines a Sony a7 IV. The combination should be a winner among indie filmmakers, especially those looking to match footage with other Sony Alpha cameras.

In the video above, you can see that Airpeak is a quadcopter design with the two legs retracting on takeoff. The gimbal that holds the alpha camera looks absolutely solid. It could even rotate 360 degrees while in flight, which would be awesome for taking different shots. The remote control and display also look very sturdy, which easily makes it a high-end model that could rival the Inspire 2.

Aside from the videos above, Sony hasn't confirmed too much. It will be interesting to see where AirPeak lands. As of now, DJI controls the market when it comes to low-cost drones, but for high-end image capture, it would be a welcome addition if Sony came to the party.
