Why Was Adam Sandler Worried He Would Ruin 'Punch Drunk Love'?

Adam Sandler is one of the greatest actors living. Even if he doesn't know.

Every year we wait to see what Adam Sandler brings us. Will it be a year of uncut gems or will we celebrate Halloween with a Hubie? Anyway, you know Sandler will give it his all in this role. It's been since he broke into the mainstream.

Like it or not, Sandler is one of our greatest actors. Moving between indie and mainstream, he's waiting for the role he's called to … or the one he thinks will be a blast.

Our first look at it was Paul Thomas Anderson's Punch Drunk Love, in which Sandler showed his reach and vision as a man who loves a good airline deal.

But few people know the story of how Sandler found this role.

Sandler was involved in the entire manufacturing process Punch-Drunk Love on the SmartLess Podcast that explains it started with Tom Cruise. “I met Tom Cruise when Nicole Kidman did SNL"Began Sandler." Cruise had a Yankee cap dipped deep and he looked up and I was in love with him. Tom called me and said, "I'm doing a movie with my friend Paul and he's interested to make a movie with you. "Can I call him?"

He went on and said, "Paul was very nice and he says," Hey, I loved Billy Madison. "And I said, 'Okay, thanks' but I didn't know who he was." Undeterred, Anderson Sandler asked bluntly, "Is it okay if I write you a film?"

What a great deal; Paul Thomas Anderson is writing a film that Sandler is supposed to destroy.

The story goes on: "But then, honestly to God, it was like 11am and I had nothing to do, and Magnolia just came out and said," I think this is the kid's movie. I will see that. "It was sold out and I was in the front row and I looked at it and I was really fucking scared and I said," Oh, this guy is fucking better than me. I don't want to be there. I will ruin his movie! Holy shit! & # 39; ”

There is a lesson in trust here. Though I remember seeing Magnolia and worrying that I should ever try to write. Because it was so beautiful and wonderful.

But Sandler did not succumb to this fear. I think this is a great lesson for all of us. He actually got on that opportunity and became the actor he didn't know could be.

Great movies and hard work shouldn't scare us. They should inspire us to be the best we can be.
